Bustami and Saheb Group, through Mobility Solution Auto Trading Co. the official dealer launched the BYD brand in Jordan, at a prestige ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel Amman on Thursday the 9th of March, among the presence of both the Jordanian and Chinese government officials.

This launch is in line with the vision of Bustami & Saheb Group to deliver electric vehicles, in particular BYD’s advanced technologies and innovative products to the Jordanian market. Stellantis to open new factory in South Africa

Stellantis plans to establish a large manufacturing facility in South Africa as part of a plan to sell 1 million vehicles annually in the region by 2030. The automotive conglomerate recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Industrial Development Corporation and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition for the factory. While Stellantis has not said how much the plant will cost nor exactly where it will be located, it did reveal that it will be in a South African Special Economic Zone that will include access to free ports, free trade zones, and various other incentives.

“This is an important step in our Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan towards strengthening our leadership in the Middle East and Africa region and becoming a major player in South Africa,” Stellantis Middle East and Africa Chief Operating Officer, Samir Cherfan said. “The manufacturing site in South Africa will be a new building block in our industrialization strategy that includes the plan to sell one million vehicles in the region by 2030 with 70% regional production autonomy and will bring us closer to our customers’ needs in the region.”

Last year, Stellantis sold 426,000 vehicles in the Middle East and Africa and while speaking on the company’s most recent earnings call, chief executive Carlos Tavares said Ram and Jeep experienced particularly strong results in the region.

“We nearly doubled our profit against 2021, which demonstrates that there is a significant profitable growth potential in Middle East and Africa and we have been making many, many decisions to improve the sourcing in Africa for Africa and the Middle East,” Tavares said.

Given that Stellantis is still finalizing details of the factory, it is not yet clear which models will be built at the South Africa site.

Isuzu Launches Sh35 Million Aftersales Facility

Isuzu East Africa has launched a new after-sales facility in Nairobi, to improve customer service. The Sh35 million million facility will enable customers to get faster services and access 10,000 different vehicle parts.

“Aftersales for Isuzu Motors has always been a key pillar of our business. We are now able to offer comprehensive aftersales solutions that boast modern vehicle service and diagnostic technology to ensure customers receive accurate vehicle health checks,” said Isuzu Motors Limited Executive Officer Naohiko Yanagawa.

“This investment will reduce waiting time for customers. It will also allow Isuzu East Africa to handle peak demand periods seamlessly,” she added.

Yanagawa added that the facility will also have a wide spectrum of proprietary diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot or tune the latest range of Isuzu vehicles that feature powerful and efficient common rail engines.

Dealer Support

According to Rita Kavashe, the Isuzu EA’s Managing Director, the facility will be able to offer additional support to its dealer market, and it will definitely grow our customer base by improving aftersales operations.

“This investment underscores our commitment in ensuring that we continue being the leading automotive assembler in Aftersales services for our bus and truck customers,” she said.

“This facility will be able to offer additional support to our dealer network and growing customer base through improving aftersales operations and processes.”

She further affirmed that customers will spend a maximum of two hours for scheduled maintenance and get access to mobile services and field engineers, all from the facility.

Inspection Service Center

The facility will also provide Isuzu customers with a computerized Isuzu Vehicle Health Report that enables Isuzu to determine vehicle conditions to advice on proper maintenance timing based on vehicle driving environment and driving style.

The reports will inform customers on how best to reduce fuel consumption costs and get hints for extending the life of consumables such as brake-related parts hence improving on efficiencies of vehicles.

The Heavy Commercial Vehicle Facility will also be the distribution outlet for its Tanzanian and Ugandan markets.

Kenya to assemble 130 Chinese electric buses in 2023

Kenyan automotive firm, Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA), said Tuesday that it will assemble 130 electric buses manufactured by Chinese automotive firm BYD in 2023.

Matt Lloyd, Managing Director of AVA, told Xinhua in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi that so far it has assembled 15 BYD electric buses for the local market that were imported as a collection of parts.

Lloyd observed that locally assembled BYD buses have high safety standards and will therefore enhance Kenya’s overall road safety. He revealed that his firm has gained modern automotive technology through the technical advice it has received from BYD.

Air suspension compressors

Compressors are one of the essential elements of the air suspension system, feeding air to the circuit. The use of a compressed air circuit makes it possible to vary the hardness of the shock observer, which means maintaining comfort and stability. In an air suspension system, the ECU (Control Unit) is often considered to be the brain of the system. And so, the compressor would be the heart of the system. The air pressure circulates through the valve block and hoses to the air springs.

From our experience, we consider that, after a failure in the suspension system and if the compressor must be changed, it is right thing to change the relay, and thus avoid subsequent failures. Egypt to launch first locally manufactured electric vehicle at affordable price

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has announced that it would launch Egypt’s first locally manufactured electric vehicle (EV) within six months at an affordable price in the Egyptian market.

In statements to the state news agency MENA on the sidelines of the seventh Cairo International Exhibition for Innovation, the Dean of the Applied Research Department at AASTMT Mohamed El-Ghamry said that the EV will be available at the affordable price of EGP 95,000. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is paying big attention to the Egyptian EV project, which is being financed by the AASTMT, El-Ghamry added. The project includes two EVs that are being designed in cooperation with the private sector, he said.

The first EV had already been used during the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which was held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November, El-Ghamry added. Work is underway to launch the second EV, which is designed to accommodate a family of five, he said. Local components make up more than 60 percent of the EV and its speed is 60 km/hr, Ghamry explained.

The first EV will operate on a Li-ion battery, whose estimated life is 12 years and comes with a 10-year warranty, the AASTMT official said. It is an economy vehicle, said El-Ghamry, adding that its operation cost does not exceed 30 percent of a diesel vehicle.

The body of the EV will be fully manufactured in Egypt and only some electronic parts will be imported at least for the time being, Ghamry said. Local components are expected to make up 100 percent of the EV within two years, he noted.

The AASTMT announcement comes less than a week after the announcement by Chinese automotive maker Geely and its agent in Egypt Abu Ghaly motors that it would launch two models of its first electronic EV in Egypt, the Geometry C. The first model, the GF 400 km, will be sold for $37,000 while the second model, the GF 550 km, will be sold for $39,000.

During the fourth edition of the World Youth Forum in 2022, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced that the country would produce its first EV in 2023 as part of the government strategy to adopt a green economy.

The Egyptian government has also expressed its openness to localising other aspects of the EV industry. Last April, the Ministry of the Public Business Sector announced that 10 companies and consortia had qualified to tender for the management and operation of electric car charging stations in Egypt.

In June 2022, the Egyptian government launched the national strategy for developing the automatic industry in the country including the EV manufacturing industry. In October, Egypt’s Senate approved a new government-drafted bill aimed to both establish a supreme council for vehicle manufacturing and set up a fund to provide financing for an environment-friendly EV industry in Egypt.
